Home

Great Aunt Suze’s world is made of four continents.  She lives in the HOUSE, cozy and snug, and where she prefers to be when it is very cold or very rainy or both.  She is in her GARDEN as much as possible and when the weather is too drippy or too hot, she spends time on the PORCH.  GAS can take a lot of weather; in fact, she loves weather.  She loves a “good blow”; and hail, thunder and lightning are reasons to run outside to watch from the porch.  In the olden days, she and her mother had a practice of calling each other if they were having a “weather event.”  Sue probably misses her mother most at those weather event times, and she tries to enjoy them double now, once for herself and once for her mom.

Sue also has a little shed out back.  Sue often sneaks off to the “GARDEN HOUSE” which is the name she gave the shed years ago.  It is a retreat from her retreat of a life and makes her wonder why a person would go on a vacation when they were retired.  The quiet life was right here, at home, and anything out in the world was clearly an adventure.  Hadn’t she had enough adventures? It didn’t make sense.  Right here in the Garden House Suze could think her own thoughts, write her own stories, paint her own pictures; and her heart was peaceful and calm, most of the time.

Suze has many friends who come over to sit on the porch, wander the garden, and have a cup of tea.  They would settle, like a cat on a pillow, and she could see their shoulders relax.  Sometimes they even said that it felt that her home was a sanctuary.  She felt exactly that way herself.

These stories, these blog posts, are an invitation to join Great Aunt Suze in her world, feel your own shoulders relax and have a cup of tea.  Welcome!
